Identify information that’s missing from online content. Put yourself in the shoes of your clients and perform searches on content that’s relevant to your business. Think about both recurring trends and current fads you’ve noticed in your market and use those as a basis for your research. Look for information that a customer would want to learn but that’s not coming up in your searches.[1] Ask yourself, “if I was a customer looking for my product or service, what else might I want to know about it that’s missing from what’s been written?”

For example, if you list google.com first and images.google.com second (and both sites use the same query parameter, like q), all searches that happen on images.google.com are attributed to google.com. To change this attribution, you can reorder these search engines in the list to prioritize how sessions are attributed. In this example, you could list images.google.com before google.com so searches are properly attributed.

Most businesses rely on a website to provide information and drive sales. Low web traffic can be improved with pay-per-click advertising, but there are also a number of things you can do to increase your ranking in search engine results and drive people to your site without paying. This is called organic traffic, and you can increase yours by optimizing your website with keywords, content, social media, and strategic links.
Once you have funds to reinvest and you have a very good sense of what’s working ranking-wise, it’s pretty easy to really crank up the content production dial by outsourcing it and publishing content daily.  Once you hit this stage and assuming you don’t do anything stupid, organic traffic should continue growing and growing without too much of your time.

Traffic data is a great way to take the temperature of your website and marketing initiatives. When you are writing and promoting blog content on a regular basis, you can use traffic data to track results and correlate these efforts to actual ROI. Be sure to look at website traffic numbers over long-term intervals to see trends and report on improvement over time.
